Bantry is one of the gems in West Cork that I love to visit time and again. As a family we spend lots of camping breaks looking out over the stunning Bantry Bay. Bantry, in the heart of West Cork, is a region of lush vegetation, palm trees and semi-tropical flowers. Hemmed in by high mountain ridges, an azure blue sea and cascading mountain streams, it is a place of unparalleled beauty where the landscape changes with every mood of wind and sky.
Each year Bantry Annual Art Exhibition is held in the bustling town centre in a little school house overlooking the harbour. This exhibition takes place every year by the hard work and dedication of those on the committee. So many talented artists from the local area and a little further afield come together to show their talent and wonderful art. I am delighted to be part of the wonderful gifted exhibitors.
We all bring our paintings to the school a few days before and there are strong lads there to get up the ladders, position and hang each artists work carefully. Each artist gives time to sit in on the exhibition. This gives us a great opportunity to have a chance to look at all the work and also meet the visitors. Visitors come from all over the world! and of course from the locality too!
I look forward each year to my trip to Bantry. I usually set off with my Mum in law and we have a lovely hour long trip down enjoying the view. After dropping off my art and catching up with the organisers, I take my Mum in law to the “Stuffed Olive” café at the top of the town and enjoy a scrumptious lunch together and have a little browse around the shops.
Around Ireland there are so many exhibitions like this where people give and use their talent and show it to the world, it takes effort and time and a great platform for so many, especially for anyone who is starting out exhibiting. I love theses exhibitions because they are not stuffy! People are made feel very welcome even to just come in and have a look around.
So if you would like to visit Bantry next August, and it is so well worth a visit, why not also visit us at the annual exhibition, we would love to see you there and give you a warm welcome!
Lucan Art Fair in North Co. Dublin was one of my first exhibitions a good distance from home. It took a lot of organisation and putting together, but the team running the fair were always to hand and of great help and support each step of the way. It was an amazing experience to exhibit among some of Ireland’s best talent and also to get to know fellow artists and share our experiences together. It was a weekend affair and it was buzzing with great wine, food, and the people just kept coming! The craic was mighty! There was a lot of hard work in this exhibition, the careful packing, transporting, hanging, taking down, you get the gist! And not to forget to mention my stress levels rising each time I had to face out onto the M50 and me a country girl!! It was like a maze of joining lanes getting me so confused and lost a few times, but I pulled it off, so putting the feel up after getting home was bliss!
