In Douglas village snuggled in St. Patrick’s Woolen Mills is a very special deli café “On The Pig’s Back”. This amazing venue hosts art exhibitions throughout the year giving a very special setting for exhibitors. Isabelle Sheridan is the proprietor of this café and runs an amazing business. It is hard to get a seat there and it is of no wonder when you see the beautiful array of artisan foods and coffees on display.
I had the pleasure of being given this space to hold my “the joys of” exhibition here in March 2016. We held a launch night to open the exhibition and Isabelle laid a fabulous selection of finger food and wine to the delight of the guests! I had the opportunity again in November and December of 2018 to hold a second exhibition called “on reflection” and it was great to be back again and this time knowing how it ran made it a little easier!
With a diverse customer base, this was one exhibition that I felt I could take a broader range of my work and know that it would be admired by a wide range of customers. Many pieces were sold on both occasions which I was really thrilled to see.
Getting such encouraging and positive feedback is so important and appreciated. It helps me to keep going and get inspired to paint more. It also can be a guide as to what different people like in a piece of art, and even though everyone has an individual taste, I find that sometimes it’s the difference geographically, or gender that dictates peoples preference. This information is invaluable for my work and how it evolves every time I sit down at my easel.
