Oh to be beside the sea!! It evokes so many emotions for me, exhilaration, energy, a sense of calm, peace, almost a contradiction! There is so much healing for me, spending time looking out over our wonderful Irish coast. That’s why, if I were to choose a scene to paint, the sea would come up trumps every time.
There is something very special about autumn, its fresh mornings, golden leaves lining the roadside. It’s a time for me to reflect and give thanks for the provision of harvest. I love when the fields are filled with bales, the contrast of colours and textures. And the trees around the roadsides, and fields with their bark, gnarled and twisted. Drive along and find little abandoned collages hidden away on a hillside. It awakens my passion to put it all down on canvas.
Each day I count my blessings that I live in the heart of the countryside. To look out across the rolling fields, spot a rabbit, a fox, see the web of a busy spider on a crisp autumn morning with dew drops sitting pretty on the amazing design, watch as the butterfly flutters here and there. I could go on and on, there is so much to paint!
